DARC June 2020 Meeting Reminder – A Picnic!

Greetings! June is here with the heat, humidity, thunderstorms, and the continuation of the COVID-19 stuff. Hopefully it will all come to an end soon.

Last month’s phone conference meeting was OK, but it’s always better to be able to chat face-to-face. So the club is going to try something a little different this month.

Normally we would have an “eatin’ meetin'” in June at a local restaurant. Since we would likely have more people present in the establishment than current guidelines allow, the club leadership has decided to try an outdoor meeting with food. This way we can eat and meet and still have the ability to be “socially distanced” as suggested by the state health officer.

So . . .

We will meet at 6:00 on Tuesday evening, June 2nd, at a pavilion near the tennis courts at Delano Park in southeast Decatur. The tennis courts are off of Gordon Drive between 8th Avenue and Somerville Road SE. The pavilion we hope to get (reservations open on Monday the 1st) is Pavilion A, which is the large pavilion to the left of the tennis courts. This will allow us a sheltered place that’s large enough that we can maintain the suggested distance between people during the meeting time. Tune in to the 147.00 repeater, or send an e-mail to ask for better directions or clarifications.

One more thing: unfortunately, if you want to enjoy the “eatin'” part of the “meetin'”, you’ll need to bring your own delectable food and drink items. We can’t do the potluck thing, again due to the health guidelines. But we can watch each other enjoy whatever picnic or fast food things we bring for ourselves.

We do need to discuss some matters regarding Field Day, which is scheduled for June 27th and 28th. A normal Field Day operation is not going to be possible, but we have some options to make sure the club can have its 67th consecutive Field Day event. Come help us with the planning!

If you have any questions, please e-mail club president Mike Findlay at kd4tgc@gmail.com or e-mail me at this address or at kb4cay@gmail.com.

And pass this along to someone you know who may not be aware but would like to attend the meeting and join the picnic.

See you at the park at 6:00 on Tuesday!
