DARC Field Day 2024 Official Results

The Field Day 2024 results are now available on the ARRL website.  They are also scheduled to be printed in the December issue of QST magazine. It was another very good event.

We improved our club’s score again this year compared to prior years. The event location at Flint City Park in Decatur seems to work well for us, and we had fun doing it! We had 50 participants, and a lot of interest from visitors. We operated in a new class this year with 3 transmitters on the air, making us a “3A” station for the first time in recent memory. And we increased our bonus score with solar (thanks Craig – KJ4LAA) and satellite (thanks, Paul – KC5RFU) contacts.

Unfortunately, either the club secretary or someone at ARRL mistyped our club callsign. We show up in the data as “W4ATS”. They got the callsign of the GOTA station (W4HNH – thanks, Lou!) correct.

Here’s the breakdown of the results:

  • Out of 4,319 entries overall, W4ATD was #544.
  • Out of 70 entries in the AL Section, W4ATD was #8.
  • Out of 330 Class 3A entries overall, W4ATD was #110.
  • Out of 5 Class 2A entries in the AL Section, W4ATD was #1. (YES! #1!)

Special thanks are in order for Bryan – W1WC (KD4PZT) and Ken – KD4PZU who together made 59% of the total contacts, including all of the CW and digital ones. Great job, guys!

Thanks also to Bob – KB4ACP for the excellent food he provided and prepared for us.

Overall we did very well, improving from our usual level among stations overall and in our section. And we made a great showing for our first time in class 3A.

NOW . . . .

Repeat after me: we’re going to be even better next year! Field Day 2025 will the 4th full weekend of June, as always, which is June 28th and 29th. Make plans to be there before your 4th of July vacation plans and help the club out!
