DARC March 2023 Meeting Reminder – Are You Hungry?

Greetings! February is FINALLY over! That shortest month of the year seems to drag on forever!

Good food and good times with friends can help clear our minds at the start of a new month. And we’ve got just the solution!

The Decatur Amateur Radio Club will hold its monthly meeting for March on Tuesday evening, September 6th, at 6:00pm at Libby’s Catfish and Diner, high atop Priceville Mountain on Highway 67. If you don’t know where it is, just get on the Beltline (Highway 67) and drive away from Decatur towards the east. After passing I-65, continue through Priceville and go up the mountain. When you reach the summit (such as it is), Libby’s will be on the right. Come hungry and ready to talk!

And note the change of time, please! This “eating meeting” will be at 6:00. Please don’t show up at the Morgan County Courthouse this month, unless you enjoy the company of the cleaning crew. Or sitting in a parking lot by yourself as the sun sets over the railroad tracks and the county jail.

And be advised that there will NOT be a streaming version of this meeting. We think that streaming video of a bunch of people eating and talking (hopefully not simultaneously, either) would not be very pleasing or informative.

Speaking of weather, there is a SKYWARN training session scheduled for Morgan County on Wednesday, March 8th, at the Trinity Town Hall, located at 35 Preston Drive in Trinity, Alabama. If you would consider learning about weather patterns and how to identify dangerous conditions, this is the educational opportunity you need. Check out the Huntsville National Weather Service SKYWARN page for details.

Please spread the word to fellow hams or those who are wanting to take the test that the Decatur club is now scheduling license testing every month on the first Saturday of each month. The testing sessions will be held in the Decatur Public Library on 6th Avenue NE (Highway 31) at 1:00. Please bring ID (especially your FRN, which is required on the license application) and your $15 fee. And, most importantly, PLEASE send an email to DecaturHamTest@w4atd.org so we can have the testing materials prepared and available for you. If you missed the test session on March 4th, April 1st is our next scheduled testing date. And if you are a Volunteer Examiner or want to help in some way, please let us know!

Also, please remember to pay your dues for 2023. It’s only $20.00 for the year. If you have family members who would qualify for membership, they are only $5.00 each. See one of the officers at the meeting, or mail your dues to DARC, PO Box 9, Decatur, AL  35602-0009.

The continuing reminder:  the roster of current club members is now online at www.HamClubOnline.com. Set up your free account and if you have paid your dues (and the Secretary has updated the database) you should see that you’re associated with the DARC. If there’s an issue, let us know.

See you on Tuesday evening for catfish and/or other tasty treats!
