DARC POTA Rove – Saturday, July 18

Here’s a message from Vice-President Chris Robson KB3A about a fun Parks On The Air activity this coming weekend:

A POTA ROVE is a group of Amateur Radio Operators operating from multiple parks, moving from park to park after reaching a minimum of 10 contacts for each operator on the ROVE.

We will be operating from 4 different parks, starting at 9:00 on Saturday morning at TVA Veterans Park Regional Park US-12962, right outside Hartselle, west on AL Highway 36.

Our second park will be TVA Flint Creek Access National Park US-12410, which is on US Highway 31 between Hartselle & Decatur.

Our third park is Swan Creek Wildlife Management Area US-9865.  We will cross the Tennessee River towards Athens and turn left off of Highway 31 onto Thomas L Hammons Rd (County Road 45) (next to Carpenter Steel and across from the Pryor Field Airport). Follow CR 45 to the Swan Creek Wildlife sign.

Our fourth park will be Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge US-0161, which is west of Decatur on AL Highway 67. We will operate from the Welcome Center Parking lot.

Once we complete the ROVE, we will meet at Francesco’s Italian Restaurant, 2613 Highway 31 S, Decatur, AL 35603 (on Hwy. 31, just south of Highway 67 (the Beltline)) for fellowship, food & drink, and sharing our experience.  POTA ON!!!

(We will need some of the ROVE operators to set up their POTA Station. We get to learn how Activators prep for their Activations. Please volunteer to be a ROVE station.)

See you Saturday, July 18th, 2026, at one (or more) of the parks. Be there, stay cool, and be radioactive!
