DARC August 2025 Meeting Reminder

Greetings! Have you figured out that it’s August already? It’s definitely NOT a dry heat! I think my garbage can was floating down the street last week! And it hadn’t even rained yet!

If you don’t mind swimming through the humid air towards downtown Decatur, the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Decatur Amateur Radio Club will take place in the climate-controlled basement auditorium of the Morgan County Courthouse at 6:30 on Tuesday, August 5th. Please come early! The building is always locked, and we must have someone stationed upstairs to open the door. Once the meeting starts, the door attendant usually comes downstairs to the meeting, and you’ll get to enjoy meeting some fine law enforcement folks who may be a bit inconvenienced by the heat, humidity, and the unauthorized presence of an unusual person or two in the courthouse parking lot.

We’ll report on the Field Day results from late June (summary note: spectacular!). We’ll discuss other issues and plans for the rest of the year.

And we’ll be looking forward to the Huntsville Hamfest on the 16th and 17th of August, less than 2 weeks from now! See the hamfest website for details. They even have phone apps available for forums and vendors this year! The club has reserved a sale table in the flea market section. If you have some wonderful items (junk?) that you’d like for us to sell, please see us at the meeting or contact one of the officers before the 15th.

The club meeting should be streamed on Microsoft Teams. If you are unable to attend, log into the meeting on your computer and participate anyway!

If you have issues, please contact me at this email address or contact club president Thomas Garner KN4MDE at his address (his callsign @ outlook.com).

Please continue to spread the word to fellow hams or those who are wanting to take a test for a new or upgraded license that the Decatur club is still giving license tests every month on the first Saturday of each month. The testing sessions will be held in the Decatur Public Library on 6th Avenue NE (Highway 31) at 1:00. Please bring ID (especially your FRN, which is required on the license application) and your $15 fee. And, most importantly, PLEASE send an email to DecaturHamTest@w4atd.org so we can have the testing materials prepared and available for you. September 6th and October 4th are our next scheduled testing dates. PLEASE NOTE: WE ALWAYS NEED VOLUNTEER EXAMINERS TO HELP WITH THE TESTING PROGRAM! If you want to help in some way (an Extra class license is normally required), please let us know! And if you send an email and do not get a timely response, please let the secretary know.

Check out the roster of current club members online at www.HamClubOnline.com. Set up your free account and if you have paid your dues (and the Secretary has updated the database) you should see that you’re associated with the DARC. If there’s an issue, let us know.

See you on Tuesday evening, August 5th, 2025, at the Morgan County Courthouse at 6:30! Don’t be late! Or overheated!
