DARC Member Update: Sad News

Sadly I must report that the last remaining charter member of the Decatur Amateur Radio Club has passed away.

Milt Mahaffey W4YXQ passed away on Wednesday, July 13th. He was 89 years old. He was active in Meals on Wheels and in SATERN, the Salvation Army emergency response group. He made many trips to assist others. He was an Army veteran and retired from the Post Office. He will be greatly missed.

The funeral was Saturday afternoon, July 16th, in Decatur. His obituary can be viewed here.

Milt and his father Hap were among those who formed the Decatur Amateur Radio Club in 1953. When Hap Mahaffey passed away, the club requested and was granted his callsign to use for the club. That’s when the club began using W4ATD as our callsign.

Please remember Milt’s wife Doris and the rest of his family in this time of bereavement.
