DARC October 2021 Meeting Reminder: Let’s EAT! AGAIN!

Greetings! It’s October! Fall is here with cooler temperatures and, before you know it, a different type of ground cover.

Gentlemen (and ladies), start your leaf blowers!

We’re “blowing up” the regular schedule again for the regular monthly meeting of the Decatur Amateur Radio Club. We will meet at the regular place in the basement of the Morgan County Courthouse in Decatur at 6:30pm on Tuesday, October 5th. This is an hour earlier than normal, so please make the attempt to be early!

Bring an appetite too, because we’re planning to have some food. In fact, if you’re so inclined, bring some food with you: finger foods, snacky dessert-type things, veggie or cheese trays, or a 5-course meal. Seriously, whatever you’d like to share will be enjoyed.

Now, one more change: this spread of food will be in the kitchen area of the basement complex. You get there by going through the auditorium, out one of the sets of doors on the far wall (the left one is the better choice), and go down the hallway to the left. The kitchen is to the right. Or you can follow your nose and the sounds of chewing.

Some of you may be interested in Winlink, the ham radio email delivery system. A couple of our members are starting “Winlink Wednesdays”. Here’s their announcement:

AB4CD (Allen) and AE4G (Mike) are starting a weekly Winlink “net”.  To participate, just send a Winlink message to AE4G via Winlink at any time on Wednesdays.  He will reply to every message received by Thursday to confirm receipt.  No specific message is needed – just a “hi” will be fine.

You can use any method you like to access Winlink, including: The new RMS in Trinity (AB4CD-10 on 145.07), One of the Huntsville RMS’s (N4HSV-10 or N4WGY-10 on 145.090), Via HF, or Direct P2P to AE4G (AE4G on 145.070).

We hope this net will both promote Winlink and help operators maintain familiarity with using the system.

In recent years, Winlink has been one of the primary methods used by ARRL and other volunteer groups during emergency / natural disaster response.  If you want to get started with Winlink and would like to discuss, feel free to send an email to AE4G at mike@mallred.com

One item of interest to all: the roster of current club members is now online at www.hamclubonline.com. Set up your free account and if you have paid your dues you should see that you’re associated with the DARC. If there’s an issue, let me know.

Hope to see you on Tuesday! Come hungry! Don’t be late!
